Salt Lake is the center of one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the US. One key reason people find the city attractive is its proximity to areas offering great outdoor recreation. World-famous ski resorts are located in the Wasatch Mountains on the city’s eastern edge.

During the summer, high mountain forests, lakes and streams draw people into the backcountry. To the south, national parks like Zion, Bryce, Arches and Canyonlands beckon travelers. Travel any direction from Salt Lake City and you’ll find opportunity for hiking, camping, backpacking, fishing, biking and other sports.

Rapid growth has brought diversity to the city. Salt Lake now offers great shopping, dining and nightlife opportunities. Yet the city has retained an easy-going, friendly atmosphere.

It’s simple to travel here because Salt Lake is served by an international airport and two major interstate highways. The interstates roughly follow trails used by early explorers, pioneers and Pony Express riders. Because it is at the junction of several such routes, the city has earned the nickname, “The Crossroads of the West.”
